ANGIO-Shield®: Built for better performance
MCD's proprietary, patent pending construction has allowed us to create ANGIO-Shield®, the first line of femoral angiography drapes with AAMI PB70:2003 Level 4 Barrier protection at the critical aperture zone. Other angiography drapes that claim AAMI Level 4 Barrier protection have only had the drape material tested, not the critical zone where the aperture is constructed. Properly applied, MCD angio drapes’ superior construction assures that the level 4 barrier holds up where it matters most.*

ANGIO-Shield® drapes are constructed with the adhesive aperture sealed to the the strike-through resistant plastic layer on the bottom side of the drape. This is designed to prevent fluid on the absorbent pad on top of the drape from wicking to the nonsterile skin below. Other manufacturers place the adhesive aperture on top of the absorbent pad, allowing fluid to wick along the edge of the aperture, then underneath the drape to the nonsterile skin below.

About the AAMI PB70:2003 standard

The Liquid Barrier Performance and Classification standard was developed by the AAMI Protective Barriers Committee to establish a system of classification and associated minimum requirements for protective apparel and drapes used in health care facilities based on their liquid barrier performance.

The AAMI Liquid Barrier Classification Level 4 Barrier designation is applied to surgical drapes that demonstrate the ability to resist liquid penetration in a laboratory test, ASTM F1670 (Standard test method for resistance of materials used in protective clothing to penetration by synthetic blood).
